Street Fashion Polka Dots – A Major Comeback Today
Many things have been said about polka dots over the ages. There was a time when they were all the rage. But then there was also a time when they were ‘too retro’! But all that is really in the past. And polka dots have made a major comeback today – especially into the mainstream fashion scene. High street fashions seems to be embracing polka dots like never before. But yes, while some of them are sticking to the retro charm of this pattern, many other designer labels are making it their very own modern statement.
And today we are focusing on 5 such beautiful uses of this one pattern that never seems to go out of age!
#1 We start with Valentino!
The new collection of Valentino is titled Resort. It consists of not just a few but quite a lot of fun polka dot prints. The dots are large – and the colors are bright and girly. The interplay is between shades of pink, orange, black and white. You have half polka dots and you have full polka dots. And you also have a lot of paneling with different patterned fabric. Actually the patterns do not differ, the color schemes do. But together they make for a nice eclectic mix.
And the collection features polka not only in clothes but also in accessories and shoes! Be sure to check it out…
#2 Moving on to Chiara Ferragni
Her new collection is really playing with the polka dot! There are micro dots. And then there are macro dots! Some of the stuff is just so statement, like this skirt which is electric orange large polka dots on a plain black skirt. It really scream for attention in all the right ways! Plus the looks she presented consisted of other head-to-toe polka dot looks too. Here she played both with colors as well as sizes of the dots. For instance, there’s a white jacket with micro polka dot detailing in black! Again, another collection that polka dot lovers will dig!
#3 Next in line is a major trend – the blown up dots
What was for so long considered simply retro is now being taken to a different level by designers – across collections. And these are the ultra large polka dots! From dresses, to skirts to tops – they are everywhere. And as with the two designers, there is a lot of play happening with color as well. Black on white and white on black are there – but there are other shades making appearances too.
#4 Another in trend is the micro dots
This we mentioned with the last designer, but then this is again something that many a designer is choosing to feature in their collections. Plus the micro polka dots are not only limited to women. Even the men’s designers are using these – because these are not feminine and yet attention grabbers! So a lot of men are sporting micro polka dots on shirts, scarves, jackets and the like!
#5 The final look we have in store is the polka dotted princess look!
Yes, this is being worked too! In fact the latest in appearance is a pink princess dress – the full flowing gown look – with pink shaded small polka dots. And what teemed with that? Pink and white sneakers playing peek-a-boo from under the dress! And boy! Does the look work….
So – polka dots are sure here to stay – and from high street fashion to regular person’s fashion, they’ve not been this in for quite some time!
